JPSO Deputies Shoot at Escapee in New Orleans!

Jefferson Parish( LA ) inmate Domonique Battle is a lucky man. He wasn't hit by deputies fire in a recent failed escape attempt in New Orleans.

Since this is the second Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office ( JPSO ) officer-involved shooting in our jurisdiction within scant weeks time, questions, legitimate and otherwise, will be raised.

Chief among them will be, does state law allow Louisiana police officers to use deadly force to apprehend escapees from their custody?

Here's my take on the matter: both the inmate and deputy whose Taser he stole happened to be Black. " What does race have to do with it?" some may ask. As inevitable racism allegations are hurled in JPSO's direction, please consider: the inmate didn't see a " sister " in the ethnic sense when he attacked her; nor the adult child of Black parents; not a possible wife/significant other to a Black man nor mother of Black children. He saw blue, as in police officer, and assaulted her.

Had he successfully gotten her fire arm, headlines could've heralded the shooting of the deputy and her partner!!!

Being a Black police officer doesn't promise criminals sharing your ethnicity-not ethics!-will show any mercy.

As our activists turn up the volume, is it too much to ask recognition that this Black on Black crime; male on female crime was largely a Black on Blue ( police ) one too?
